Beer beer beer

Our time in Kyoto was over and so we set sail for Hiroshima. Or rather we trained it. Got there around lunchtime and eventually found the hostel, both warm and hungry which is never a good mix. We dumped our bags and ventured to Hiroshima castle. Obviously everything in Hiroshima won't be much older than 60 years but the castle has been rebuilt to a beautiful standard and the view from the top was quite lovely.

We wanted to go to the art gallery but at 1300 yen we felt it a bit steep. Instead we walked past a world beer festival so decided to spend 900 yen on a beer. Far too expensive for what it was. But the beer festival was odd, it would have felt right in any European country but the musicians in lederhosens speaking Japanese was weird.

Thinking the beer so far too pricey we then walked past a hipster bar which had happy hour on. 300 yen for a beer was just too good to miss.

At this point we were in the centre of downtown and so places to eat were near and many. We settled for a meat place (originally thinking it was noodles) and got some barbecued meat. A tad pricey but quite delicious. I added a touch of wasabi to some pork loin which added to the flavour. Never thought I'd say I'd enjoy wasabi.

We then headed back to our hostel and only realised when we heard the sound of chattering voices that our hostel was having a barbecue. A tad gutted we missed out on that we welcomed the free drink and sat down with some of the locals who taught us a Japanese game with a wooden ball attached to a wooden handle by a string. The aim was to balance the ball on the handle without touching the ball. Quite tricky. I decided it's kind of like the Japanese version of a Diablo. We also heard some African music from our fave little Japanese man who played these things that were like 2 maracas but without the handle and attached with string. Quite amazing, his hands moved in a whirlwind, it was difficult to see how he played them.

The hostel is rather beautiful and so friendly; definitely going to be getting a good review.
